Crystal Fire: Animated Sparkle
The idea for Crystal Fire came from one of our users.
Hello,
I have a setup of 5 hue in my chandelier over my table
I really like the Fire scripts but I would like to have one that goes fast as the Fire scripts, but brighter around 80% to 100% and switching between 2500k and 5000k. That could be called Diamond Chandelier
Thank you,
Stephane
We think this is an excellent idea! There are lots of users with color or even just white-range tunable bulbs that could use a “sparkly” effect for their light fixtures.
When it came time to try out this idea, instead of going to our animated Fire effects we turned to an entirely different animation effect: our Passing Clouds scenes. In this effect we have the capability to map current brightness to color temperature in a linear relationship. However, for Passing Clouds when the “sun” is shining at max brightness we set the color temperature to 5000K but when a cloud passes we lower the brightness and raise the color temperature to 6500K, to simulates the temperature of overcast skies.
But for Crystal Fire we want brighter flashes (sparkles) to have a higher (bluer) color temperature. And lower lulls in brightness to be warmer.
We took a simple approach:
At 100% brightness we set color temperature at 6500K. (Like a blueish diamond.)
At 10% brightness we set color temperature to 2000K . (Like candle light.)
And we had the brightness vary randomly between 50% and 100%. Our color temperature mapping varies the color temperature from about 4250 to 6500K. However if you turn the brightness down in the app, it lowers those values proportionately. So, setting the brightness slider 70% gets you a range of 2975K to 4550K. Which is close to Stephane’s proposed number. But it allows for a cooler sparkling fire to happen at higher brightnesses and warmer effect to happen at 50% or lower brightness.
As for the name, we are simply trying to keep it within the Fire theme as it will eventually become part of the FIRE Album. But the name, the graphic and even the settings of this effect are open to feedback. So let us know what you think of this new effect!
